Frequently Asked Questions

What is SAC Frozen? ▼

SAC Frozen is a marketplace connecting diaspora customers with frozen ready-made meals and food products from participating African food vendors and restaurants. Vendors prepare the food, while SAC Frozen facilitates the marketplace, cold-chain logistics, and fulfillment.

Do you deliver worldwide? ▼

No, we currently exclusively service the UK, US, and Canadian markets.

How is my food kept frozen during transit? ▼

Meals are frozen hard and kept in insulated chillers using cold-chain processes. They can last up to 72 hours in transit, ensuring safe temperatures upon arrival.

How long does delivery take? ▼

Delivery times depend on the product’s location, your destination, and inventory availability. The estimated delivery time is usually within 24 to 48 hours.

Is the food already cooked? ▼

Many SAC Frozen products are fully prepared and simply need to be reheated. Some products may require additional preparation. Always follow instructions on individual packaging.

What if my food arrives thawed or damaged? ▼

Take photographs immediately upon delivery and contact SAC Frozen customer support with your order number. Food safety concerns should be reported promptly, and improperly temperature-controlled items should not be consumed.

What kind of food vendors can list on SAC Frozen? ▼

SAC Frozen is open to a wide range of food businesses, including:

  • Restaurants
  • Home chefs
  • Caterers
  • Bukas and local food vendors
  • Bakeries and pastry businesses
  • Meal-prep businesses
  • Soup and stew vendors
  • Snack and small-chops vendors
  • Specialty and traditional food businesses

Vendors are responsible for ensuring that the foods they offer comply with applicable food-safety, transportation, import, and destination-country requirements.

What kind of food can I list? ▼

You can showcase food from your regular menu, provided it can be safely prepared, packaged, stored, transported, and legally delivered to the customer’s destination.

This may include soups, stews, rice dishes, pastries, snacks, sauces, meal packs, and other prepared foods.

Important: Being listed on SAC Frozen does not automatically mean that every food item can be shipped internationally. Restrictions can differ depending on ingredients, particularly meat, poultry, fish, dairy, eggs, fresh produce, and other regulated products.

Who prepares, cooks, and stores the food? ▼

The vendor does. SAC Frozen provides the marketplace platform that allows customers to discover and order from food vendors. The individual vendor remains responsible for preparing, handling, and packaging each order safely from their own approved kitchen or food-preparation location.

SAC Frozen does not cook or store your food.

How do I send food to my customer, and do I have to use your logistics? ▼

After receiving an order, the vendor dispatches the food directly to the customer using an appropriate cold-chain logistics provider. You may use:

  • Your preferred cold-chain logistics company; or
  • A logistics provider recommended by SAC Frozen.

You are not required to use SAC Frozen’s logistics partners. However, where available, SAC Frozen can recommend options to streamline the process.

How should I package food for cold-chain transit? ▼

Food must be cooled and handled safely before freezing. Where frozen transport is required, the product should be frozen solid before dispatch.

Use food-grade, leak-resistant primary packaging. Seal the food properly, protect it from leakage or contamination, and place it inside an appropriate insulated shipping container or cooler with suitable refrigerants.

Do not rely on ordinary cellophane wrapping alone. The outer package should be securely sealed and labeled as required by the carrier and destination.

Can customers pick up food or travel internationally with it? ▼

Local Pickup: Yes, where the vendor offers pickup. The customer is responsible for maintaining required storage temperatures after collection.

International Travel: Potentially, but this depends on destination rules. Airline or airport-security clearance to carry food onboard does not automatically mean destination customs or agricultural authorities will permit entry. Customers should verify destination regulations before traveling.

Who is responsible for international import clearances? ▼

For international orders, both the vendor and customer should confirm that the product is permitted at the destination and meets all applicable food, customs, agriculture, and import requirements.

SAC Frozen may provide general guidance, but final clearance depends on the relevant border authorities and shipment contents.

How should vendors describe their meals on listings? ▼

Each listing should clearly state:

  • Name of the meal
  • Main ingredients & allergen information
  • Portion or weight and price
  • Storage & heating/reheating instructions
  • State of product (chilled vs. frozen)
  • Important dietary information
How long can frozen food stay in transit? ▼

Usually 48–72 hours. Transit duration depends on the specific food item, insulated packaging system, refrigerant type, ambient weather conditions, and logistics provider. Vendors must select cold-chain packaging capable of maintaining required temperatures throughout transit.

Who sets the menu and prices? ▼

The vendor has complete control over their menu and pricing, subject to marketplace policies. Vendors should factor in raw food costs, specialized packaging, marketplace fees, logistics costs, and desired profit margins when setting prices.

Are there different vendor plans, and how do I apply? ▼

Yes. SAC Frozen offers Basic, Standard, and Premium membership tiers with varying product capacity, visibility, and vendor support.

To join, complete the vendor application, submit business and product details for verification, and upload your proposed menu for approval.
